That something is different doesn't always mean it's good... but in this case, it does. Your choice of setting, perspective, partial concealment and airy semi-transparency of colours - it all merges and creates an atmosphere so vivid it's almost tangible. Without knowing anything of the context, the feeling your painting gives me is one of something that was meant to be kept secret, something beautiful and lost and missed. That less is more shows clearly in your choice of showing only just enough to let one guess at the background story of why these people are there, hiding in the bamboo. It's something I haven't seen much of here, but I love it. Rather than a character portrait it's a snapshot of a life, storytelling through pictures, and it's done so BEAUTIFULLY.
I didn't think that a human can do that with illustrator. I know what I admire in those draws. I always wanted to pratice illustrator as a pencil, with impulse. You realize that : the impulse. Like on a paint or with water colours. You're the fist personn I know yet to be able of that with illustrator !!!! Great inspiration.
